This room shows bathers of the past, original pictures of the
old balnearios (beach resorts) of southern South America, such as
Punta del Este, Piriápolis, Atlántida, La Floresta, La Paloma,
Carrasco, Pocitos, Malvín, Capurro Beach in Uruguay; Mar del Plata,
Miramar and Necochea in Argentina; and the novel-like story of
Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
There are thousands of collectibles; old postcards,
magazines, books, tins, bottles, suitcases, toys, and everything that
was used in an beach
house. An old picnic suitcase stands out with its jars for
jams, tablecloths, cutlery, a coffeepot, hip flask, glasses, etc.
Old customs and nostalgia from this part of the world are
also related, for example the "refresco de bolita" (a marble was used to
top on this bottle), the Geniol head (Geniol will take the nails from
the head, taking your headache away). This was an advertisement used in the
old-times for an aspirin brand with a nice “jingle”) snuff tobacco
tins, chewing tobacco tins, etc.
When were men allowed to be closer than 30 meters to a
woman in the sea?
When were men allowed to go to the beach bare-chested?
